Our Humanitarian Response to the Ukrainian Refugee Crisis

At Moody’s, we are committed to providing organizations with emergency funding to support relief and recovery efforts for humanitarian crises and natural disasters around the world. In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Moody’s came together as a global community to provide financial support and humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees.

Between the Moody’s Foundation and employee contributions, we donated a total of nearly $1.3 million to support Ukraine relief and recovery efforts. Moody’s Foundation donated $450,000 to our crisis response partner, the International Rescue Committee, to provide supplies and resources for refugees – with almost half of these funds being distributed based on the outcome of an employee vote that named Ukrainian relief as their cause of choice. To date, our people have generously contributed a total of over $502,000 toward humanitarian efforts through Moody’s Matching Gifts program, where every employee donation is doubled by the Moody’s Foundation. And in recognition of World Refugee Day, our employees donated an additional $315,000 to several nonprofits supporting Ukraine, through our digital gift card initiative in partnership with GlobalGiving.

Our people also acted by volunteering their time. In Lithuania, our employees formed the Ukraine Task Force dedicated to helping refugees in the country by setting up donation and volunteering opportunities for Vilnius-based colleagues. This included collecting and delivering essential supplies for refugees, assisting them with finding housing and accommodation, and supporting local Ukrainian-owned businesses. Additionally, our colleagues based in France partnered with the local nonprofit “Serve the City,” where they prepared and delivered over 100 meals to refugees across Paris and sent a package of hygienic care products to the Polish border. And in New York, our Executive Leadership Team came together to create care packages for refugee children in Poland while other teams across Moody’s dined at a Ukrainian restaurant in the East Village, which donated 100% of its borscht sales to support humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Testimonials

“I was deeply moved by the kindness, compassion and empathy our people have shown Ukrainian refugees. I am proud to have witnessed countless colleagues volunteering their own time to help, and this demonstrates the lasting impact we can make when we come together to make a difference.”
Mariano Andrade Gonzalez, Lithuania Country Head.

“When the war broke out in Ukraine, my first thought was finding a way to help, which is how our local Ukraine Taskforce was born. I’ve always believed that there is power in unity, and that when people come together toward a shared purpose, amazing things can happen. I’m proud of the success we have achieved so far but know that there is still more work to be done, which we will continue in the months ahead.”
Migle Andrunaviciute, Senior Communications Strategist.

“Being a part of the Ukraine Task force has been very rewarding. During the last year, by coming together, our collective actions demonstrated the power of unity, and helped us amplify the support we could provide to both our colleagues, and people in need.”
Emilija Rozgiene, AVP – Team Leader.
